Poetic Pretension – (by tom balistreri)

On February 20, 2019 By Tom BalistreriIn UncategorizedLeave a comment
The inclination to give perception,
of eloquent literary invention,
may cause an author’s attention,
to submit to poetic pretension.
The serious poets curse,
may be to write in fanciful verse.
With works that appear,
a mix of King James and Shakespeare.
Though temptation may beguile,
still I resist that style.
Perhaps because my muse,
is closer to Seuss.

Tremble In Faith – (a poem by tom balistreri)

Faith without works is dead.
This has been written and read.
Faith alone is not fundamental.
For even Satan believes and trembles.

Clothed As The Lilies – (a poem by tom balstreri)

Why worry about your clothes?
See how the flowers grow.
They labor not or spin,
yet dress finer than a king.
If God clothes the grass of the field,
will His blessings stay concealed?
To those who have faith,
He will provide a glorious swathe.

Wealth Of Knowledge – (a rhyme by tom balistreri)

He took his private jet,
to his over sea home.
He had breakfast in Paris.
He had dinner in Rome.
They say his wealth,
came from talent and skill.
Actually it came,
from his late uncle’s will.

Lovely Thoughts (Based on Philippians 4:8)

Finally, brethren,
these things you must do,
whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are true,
whatever is pure,
honest and just,
of good report with virtue,
then you must,
think of these things,
dwell on them always,
for this righteous,
and worthy of praise.

Not Maybe – (a poem by tom balistreri)

In a world where answers are hazy.
Where clear direction
is answered with a “maybe”.
The promises of God require no guess,
for he answers His Word,
with a “yes”.

I sing here the classic standard song,
“The Night We Called It A Day.”
Truly a torch song.
Thanks for listening.
